Spelunca Gorges

Spelunca Gorges – Hiking in Corsica

The Spelunca gorges are among the main attractions of the island's west coast. They are located between Ota and Evisa and are a good destination for a trip from Porto. We are describing the short, family friendly version of the route. Starting point is the soccer field past Ota at the Ponte Vecchiu. There are some nice natural pools near the old Genoese bridge, but we carry on towards the gorge. On both sides of the track are steep, upward rock faces. After 45 minutes we reach the Ponte de Zaglia where two creeks are merging and the valley widens. There are fantastic picnic places and swimming spots here, but the rocks are quite slippery, so be careful to avoid an unintentional swim. From here, a very steep path leads to Evisa (a climb of about 500m).

If you are walking with children, it is best to stay and enjoy the magical place before you return. The Spelunca gorges are no secret, so be prepared to find a lot of others here, especially in summer. Nevertheless, the gorge is absolutely fantastic, particularly in the evening. The track through the Spelunca gorge is part of the Tra Mare et Monti trail.
