Corsica's Hiking Routes
Corsica is especially well known for its long distance hiking routes. The most famous route, the GR20, crosses the island from northwest to southeast and attracts many hikers each year.
The “Tra Mare e Monti” and the “Da Mare a Mare”, which are easier and require fewer overnight stays, are also very appealing because of their scenic variety. All hiking routes pass through the national park “Parc Naturell et Regional de la Corse”.
For accommodation along the trails you find the so called Refuges. These are basic huts where you can spend the night in your own sleeping bag on plain mattresses and prepare your own food on camping cookers. Some of the Refuges have also started to provide service. In the small villages along the way, there are simple hostels, the Gite d'Etappes. During the height of summer, accommodation along the trails is hopelessly overcrowded but staying in tents is also an option. Please note that camping is only allowed in the vicinity of the huts.
