Cap Corse

Cap Corse

Cap Corse is situated in the far north of Corsica and extends into the sea like a finger. It is 40km long, 15km wide and Monte Stello in its center rises to the proud altitude of 1307m. On the slopes of the mountain there are only a few small villages. Especially the steep rocky faces on the western side are quite remote. Along the coast, for hundreds of years there existed only the so called “Marinas”, small ports with storage sheds. It was too dangerous to live here due to ongoing conquests and pirate attacks. Only the growing tourism caused villages to develop along the coast.

Today, the old ports serve as marinas. These and the permanent windy conditions have helped to turn Cap Corse into a sailing paradise.

Especially worthwhile visiting are the villages of Nonza, Erbalunga, Centuri, Pino and Sisco. Highly recommendable is a round trip of Cap Corse along the 130km long coastal road. Take at least a day for this as the road is mostly narrow and winding. Anxious drivers should do the round trip anticlockwise to avoid driving on the side of the road that is closest to the vertical drop of the cliff's edge.
