Corsica's Rivers and Swimming Spots
The Corsican rivers with their natural swimming pools are especially liked by mountain hikers. You always should remember to pack your swimsuit in your backpack. The streams and rivers through the high mountains carry enough water for a refreshing dip even in summer and they can be found in nearly all areas of the island.
We especially liked the pools in the Fango valley (near Galeria, but unfortunately they often dry up in summer), Foret d'Aitone (near Evisa) and in the Bavella valley. Also, there is often good swimming under many old Genoese bridges, like for example in the Spelunca gorge.
Please make sure that you always swim upstream from the last settlement, as sewage plants are unfortunately still rare in Corsica. Thunderstorms can be dangerous, because heavy rain can swell even small streams into raging torrents within a very short time and turn them into dangerous traps. This can even happen if the storm is up in the mountains and seems far away. Warning signs and swimming bans on rivers below dams should also be taken very seriously.
