Hiking in Corsica
Corsica is perfect for hiking due to its breathtaking scenic beauty which can only be truly experienced on foot. A network of tracks covering the whole island offers lots of opportunities to explore the diversity of the various different landscapes. Beside the famous trails GR20, Mare et Monti, Mare et Mare, there are many more options for short or long hikes. Please note, that the condition of some tracks is not always good and markings are not always clear. Sometimes there are very steep climbs and descents to master. Therefor, strong shoes, weatherproof clothing and sufficient food and drink are an absolute must, particularly in the mountains. It is advisable that you consult a hiking guide book in order to be well prepared. The Rother Hiking guide Corsica (see box on the right) is highly recommended.
The best time for hiking in Corsica is May and June. At this time of the year the heat is not as sweltering as in July and August and a variety of flowers, including orchids, and shrubs and trees in bloom can be admired.
Following we would like to describe a few rewarding tracks which are also suitable for families.
