Corsica's Beaches

The East Coast Beaches

There are sandy beaches for kilometers along the mainly flat east coast and they are especially well-liked by families with children. Also, they are popular with naturists. A lot of nudist campgrounds and resorts are located close to the beaches of the east coast and around Porto Vecchio. Apart from there though, swimming in the nude should be avoided, particularly in the vicinity of towns and villages. Unlike the beaches of the Plaine Orientale, the southern coast is habitat to sea urchins and it is recommended to wear beach sandals.

The West Coast Beaches

Corsica's west coast is much rougher and more rugged than the east coast. You won't find many sandy beaches here, although there are some very nice bays near Ile Rousse, Calvi, Plage d'Arone and Propriano. The other beaches are mostly pebble beaches and beach shoes are a must. In many places, the coast drops into the sea quite steeply and as it is exposed to west winds, there is often a strong surf, particularly in spring and autumn. However, the west coast and its hinterland are more interesting and diverse than the east coast. Plus there are the beautiful sunsets as well, which only can be enjoyed on this side of the island.
