Discover Corsica!
Corsica is one of the most beautiful and varied islands in the Mediterranean Sea. Not without reason it is also called “Ile de Beauté – Island of Beauty”. Corsica owes its special charm to its diverse scenery. Beautiful beaches and secluded bays lie next to rugged cliffs and bizarre rock formations. The landscape changes from isolated hills and plateaus overgrown by Macchia to high alpine country, and former domestic pigs are running wild in groves of Chestnut, Olive and Cork Oak.
Corsica – A Hiker's Paradise
This diversity, which is also apparent in the unique fauna and flora, makes Corsica especially interesting for the more adventurous. Beside the famous walking tracks (e.g. GR20, Mare et Monti) there are countless walkways and trails. Quiet roads that wind along the coast and through the mountains invite you to go bike riding. In recent years Corsica has become a mecca for canyoning enthusiasts and it has always been a favoured destination for sailing and diving.
Although Corsica is no longer a secret among travelers, the island has been spared the mass tourism which has taken over other Mediterranean islands. Luckily, on Corsica you won't find high rise accommodation buildings that block the beach front for kilometres. Instead, a well developed network of camp grounds covers the coast as well as inland areas and caters for all budgets. Camping is still by far the most popular way of holiday making on Corsica.
Getting around Corsica is easy as there are numerous travel options. Traveling by camper van and car is very popular. Public transport is slightly less convenient but there are bus services along the main routes. A train service connects Calvi with Bastia and Ajaccio with Bastia. Corsica is extremely popular with motor bike travelers.
Spring – Corsica in Bloom
May and June are probably the most beautiful months for visiting Corsica. At this time of the year you will find a magnificent abundance of flowers and shrubs in bloom and temperatures are still moderate. This means hiking and biking will reward you with a very special experience in stunning nature. By late May or early June, the water temperature in the sea and in the lower lying swimming holes of mountain rivers is usually warm enough for swimming.
